C202 is a Telugu film directed and written by Munna Kasi. It tells a story mixed with fear which has already attracted the attention of many horror fans.

Plot

The family includes a husband, wife, and children, who have a chance to move into a beautiful villa since it is very cheap. Even though the premise may sound rather cliched, the film is unlike anything else available today.

The villa, located in a secluded area, has a terrible dark secret. It is not just a house; instead, it is a well-laid-down snare by an evil force that is willing to come out and tangle with its prey.

Without giving too much away, it is necessary to clarify that this is not an ordinary haunted house. Not knowing the evil that lurks around, the family quickly comes to terms with some evil within them. But why do the characters feel the urge to move into that dreadful house, and what is their connection to that house in all these years?

The viewer can feel the tension only rising when the events of the family transform into more strange and more frightening scenarios.

The narrative is concerned with bringing in a haunted core of events and people’s personal history so as to deviate from the rundown tendencies of the ghost genre and make the experience more personal and thicker than usual ghost stories.

“C202” was born out of the grace of cinematographer Seetharamaraju Upputhalla, who is in the habit of evoking creepy images, which help in drawing one into the story. The lighting used by Upputhalla deserves a mention. Dreary shadows also gradually impose themselves onto scenes that are ordinarily amiable.

The more frightened the members of the family are, the more tense the camera movements become; for instance, there are fast shots of close angles that tend to portray the panic within the family vividly to the viewers.

Another domain in which the “C202” excels is the sound design. The role of sound in such films must be considered because, most of the time, it is used to generate suspense.

Munna Kasi, who is also an editor, utilises silence with extreme creativity by interrupting peaceful places with provocative sounds that make your heart tremble. The swish of a closing door, the faint sound of something intangible.

All of these things make the audience feel more frightened than they usually would. Each edit is meaningful and adds to the story without excess. In all these, what is visible is not the only thing that stays with you: it is what is not visible that is stunning.

The Cast Details

‘C202’ is credited for its excellent cast, with director-writer Munna Kasi assuming a lead role. In a movie where he plays the hero, he is seen as a vulnerable and determined young man who awakens empathy even in unusual circumstances.

He is not the typical macho hero – always confident and calm – at the beginning of the film. He is the same man, but there is a development in the character, which is an arc for the audience.

During the movie, the character of Sharon Riah Fernandez goes through some of the worst odds and Fernandez manages to show anxiety and valour simultaneously.

As for Tanikella Bharani, he is a strong actor himself, doing important work in the film as the character who sorts out the magical elements with the mundane family.

The other star cast, Satya Prakash, Subhalekha Sudhakar, and Shafi, were very impressive and contributed their best to the film. Each actor adds depth in one way or another to the film, which is consequently not just about a ghost story.

Review

Since the aspect of the movie is just as cultural, it is equally interesting and horrifying. The inclusion of ancient shlokas and Tantrik techniques is a gameplay of Indian terror. ‘C202’ uses a diagonal approach to engage the viewers. This film is set to make its unique way to the Telugu film industry.
