Rising through the new stars: 1990s-2000s
The 90s was a combo of family dramas, action films and love tales. New stars came into appearance, among these:

However, the emergence of Kannada cinema came in 2018 when KGF chapter 1 arrived in the cinema. KGF starring Yash as the lead actor was not a film but a movement that was directed by Prashanth Neel. Produced on the rough texture, smash dialogues and class production, it became the first ever Kannada movie that could generate a pan-India focus.
It was translated into and premiered in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil languages. When KGF Chapter 2 came out in 2022, history was created:
- It produced over 1200 crores of rupees in the worldwide market
- It was the biggest grossing Kannada film to ever release

Kantara – Part 1
Kantara, released in 2022, made another gem to the world via Kannada cinema. It was a great combination of folklore, nature forces and divine forces entangled with the local customs as written, directed and performed by Rishab Shetty. Kantara was based on local beliefs and contained culture and Deva worship, which was a part and package of the coastal geography of Karnataka bordering a small village.
But it is not a big-budget movie; and being the lowest budget movie, it became one of the most successful movies on the basis of mouth-to-mouth publicity, great narration and awesome climax scenes. The success of Kantara served as an evidence that such real local stories could strike in the heart of all people.
