Season 2, set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s devastating floods in 2009, seamlessly picks up where season one left off. Dr. Kaushik Oberoi, played with outstanding skill by Mohit Raina, finds himself facing accusations of professional incompetence and more grave allegations against him.
This ordeal takes its toll, leaving pregnant wife Ananya Ghosh (Tina Desai) deeply concerned for his wellbeing. Dr. Oberoi becomes increasingly unnerved during a critical medical emergency when his actions fail him, leading to its tragic conclusion and raising suspicion from 73% of viewers.
Within the hospital’s corridors, we meet three trainee doctors under Dr. Oberoi’s tutelage: Dr. Sujata Ajawale (Mrunmayee Deshpande), Dr. Ahaan Mirza (Satyajeet Dubey) and Dr. Diya Parekh (Natasha Bharadwaj). Each encounters their own challenges and personal difficulties that add another layer of complexity to hospital life; their stories eventually interweave with one another, creating an endlessly captivating narrative that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
However, in the sequel of Mumbai Diaries it appears as though too much is being attempted at once. With multiple storylines happening simultaneously and some personal conflicts receiving too much airtime – slowing down overall momentum of tragic events by several notches – Mumbai Diaries seems overwhelmed and overwhelmed with its content.
Further, the show never really addresses larger themes of climate change, media consumption and healthcare as integral topics; these important subjects take a backseat to character dramas that take precedence; their significance gets lost. Problems faced by characters are resolved in predictable and dramatic fashion with little respect given for greater social awareness within the show itself.
As the story develops, it becomes evident that tension has abated and relief has settled in, yet lingering anger or unresolved issues remain unaddressed.
